About Cod Fish
COD is a firm white fish. It’s popular known for its mild flavour and dense flaky. There two main varieties of cod, Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), is found in the cold waters of the North Atlantic and the smaller Pacific Cod (Gadus Macrocephalu) which is found among the Pacific Ocean. Cod is also found in Indian Ocean and mostly called Kilifi Cod Rock.
Atlantic cod is sweeter and tender as compared to pacific cod which is firmer and most savour. It’s the oiliest fatty fish that has strongest flavour. But the truth cod is quite lean.

The female cod is one of the most fertile creatures on the planet, Female lays up to 5 million eggs or roe. Most eggs will be eaten by different types of fish and other sea creatures. Remaining eggs will hatch after 8 to 23 days. Larvae are transparent and only 0.16 inches long. Their size will increase 40 times after just 10 weeks. Larvae eat fito- and zooplankton. Later, when large larvae will enrich their diet with small crustaceans. At the age of 3 to 4 years, cods become sexually mature. Age of cod can be determined by the number of rings that are visible on the structure called otolith, located in the skull.
Lifespan of cod fish depends on the species. Atlantic cod can survive up to 25 years in the wild.
Cod is popular in Scandinavian countries, either smoked or boiled and prepared with other ingredients. It is perhaps this fecundity, allied to the cod’s apparent fondness for doing as little as possible, that has led to it being easy to catch.
