About Trout
Trout is the common name for a number of species of freshwater fish. Most of trout live in freshwater lakes, rivers and streams. Trout are related to salmon and arctic char, this explains its similarities in appearance and taste to salmon. Trout feeds on insect larvae, small fish and flying insects.
RAINBOW TROUT
Rainbow trout originating from the northern Pacific, but the fish has been introduced to many countries, including Kenya around Mount Kenya region and is widely farmed.
Trout spawn between fall and spring and bury their eggs in a gravel nest scooped out by the female on a streambed. The eggs take two to three months to hatch, and the newly hatched trout or fry become known as fingerlings, when they leave the nest and begin feeding on plankton, it varies in color depending on it habitant.
Rainbow trout fish is beautiful and colorful. Their coloration varies in relation to gender, habitat, age and spawning. These fish can range from silvery body, brown back, olive, pink and blue streaks down its sides.
The average size of a rainbow trout is between 500g and 1.5kg, though they can grow up to 14kg. They reach up to 70cm in length and their average lifespan is four to six years.
NUTRITION VALUE
Trout are classified as oily fish is packed with omega-3 fatty acids to protect against brain and cardiovascular. The fish are good source of vitamins including vitamin B1, vitamin B3 vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin D and minerals such as potassium, calcium, iron and copper.

Trout when cooked provides 3 percent calcium, 7 percent iron and copper, 4 percent magnesium, zinc, 19 percent phosphorous, 6 percent potassium and 2 percent sodium. Minerals play different roles to help your various systems to function. Potassium powers your tissues, cells and organs with the electrolytes. Trout is low in mercury, making it a safe for your health diet.
